Instructional Conversations

Hi everyone! My purpose last night in TCH ED 6220 was to simultaneously introduce the concept for dialogic talk in classrooms and to describe your assignment and what needs to be thought about.  Along the way, I really shortchanged the theory side of the explanation.Dialogic talk emphasizes the give and take of conversation.  The psychologist Bahktin was one of the first to write about this idea. He was a contemporary of Vygotsky.  He feels that speaking has a reciprocal quality; a person quite…See More

What is the CoLab & How Does it Work?

So, CoCo & TayTay articulated how they see the CoLab.PLEASE share what you noticed, what you are reminded of, and what connections you are making to your own and the larger CoLab stuff we are doing. As we further develop shared language and understandings of what we do and who we are, it'll help us greatly with our App, as well as a slew of oodles of publications!First, CoCo articulates how he sees the CoLab at the center, or hub and nexus, where multiple disciplines intersect. He also…See More

"Hmmmm. In public schools as we know them, that's an old technology that suits the system well, but not the learner. Flexible, affinity and ability based groups that change every few weeks woul really tell s something!"

Day 3

Posted by Shirley Brown on July 11, 2012 at 9:04pm 0 Comments

I should have written down the assignment, but since I didn't, I will do my best to remember what it was.

In the explore part, I was amazed at how quickly we established rapport with one another. Although there were times when I wanted to confirm or add my experience, I refrained. It is now clear to me that it is important to do so.

In the envision part, I was sure I knew what Lora would want in a car, but I added three other possibilities. I was surprised that she… Continue

Day 3 Museum IIMP -- File Attached

Posted by Mike Murawski on July 11, 2012 at 12:58pm 0 Comments

Here is a handout/resource packet for the IIMP I'll be prototyping in the museum galleries this afternoon.  I did switch to artwork we worked with today -- we responded to Anselm Kiefer's "Burning Rods."

Enjoy!  I hope to upload more resources before the end of the week (just in case anyone finds them useful).…

What's that on the radio?

Posted by Mike Murawski on July 11, 2012 at 12:55pm 0 Comments

Here is a link to the latest KDHX radio arts interview featuring yours truly.  It's a short interview, and they always cut out the really good stuff, but I thought it was fun.  Nancy Kranzberg is one of the biggest supporters of the arts in St. Louis, and she has been doing this short radio spot for decades.  Always good to be connecting these ideas to a broader community.…

Loved today

Posted by Shirley Brown on July 10, 2012 at 9:24pm 0 Comments

I appreciated the format for today. We were expected to work with the unexpected, and it worked perfectly. The hands-on experience, the debrief, and the encounter with the artist resulted in a very satisfying experience.

I have to confess that when I saw the blank pages in my notebook, I was in a mild state of panic. I can't draw. Today's experience has made me wonder if I could learn to draw.

Thanks for a great day.
